Style, Retreat, and Final Week

Style

As the summer comes to a close, small things happen each week that make things more and more real. Well earlier this week, I received my cassock in the mail from the Diocese of Sioux City. The cassock is an article of clerical clothing that is ankle-length, black, and comes with many buttons. At Kenrick-Glennon, it is customary for young seminarians to wear the cassock and surplice (knee-length white tunic, worn over the cassock) during Mass, Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer. I must say they will both take some getting used to but it makes deciding what to wear to prayer very easy! School uniforms were always something I enjoyed about going to Catholic School and I am glad that I am able to somewhat keep up with that! They say black is a slimming color also, so for the first time in my life I might look sleek and slender!

Retreat

This past week the Seminarians of Iowa gathered at the Iowa Seminarian Convocation in Ames, hosted by the Archdiocese of Dubuque. While at the Convocation, we were able to learn about the history of the four Diocese in Iowa from oldest to youngest: Dubuque, Davenport, Sioux City, Des Moines. It was an enlightening experience and we all learned alot. When Convocation ended, the seminarians from the Diocese of Sioux City traveled to Okoboji for some time of fraternity. The weekend ended with us hosting a Quo Vadis retreat for young men wanting to know more about discernment. The retreat was wonderful and seeing so many young men passionate about their faith was extraordinary!

Final Week

Summer has flown by! I am now at my final week here in Iowa. This summer has been crazy fast with many opportunities to see friends and family. This is a wonderful area and it will always be home to me. Having never lived outside of the Diocese of Sioux City, this move will be one with may differences. I cannot express how grateful I am to all of the people who have supported me with prayers and their presence this summer. Please know that I love and will miss all of you.
